How to evaluate the value of the jadeite? 

There are five major quality factors to evaluate the value of the jadeite:

 

First of all, the most important factor is Color. A pure, smooth, deep and bright green is the most desirable color of jadeite for customer. Then the color could be listed as, lavender, red (orange, yellow), black, white and so on.

 

The second factor is Transparency (or “Water Sense” usually called by Chinese). The value of the jadeites is positively related by its’ transparency. For example, the Completely Transparent (Glass Sense) has the best transparency and greatest value. 

And then would listed by secondary transparent (Ice Sense), semitransparent (Agate Sense), Rare Transparent (Pinkish Lavender Sense) and completely opaque (Bean Sense).

 

Then Texture, the third factor, can be fine, medium, or coarse, depending on variations in crystal size and hardness. Jadeites with high texture are pure, smooth and compact. After polish, they would have high brightness, showy color and melodious sound when knocking. Some jadeites contain many dark spots, impurities, bats and crackles and then lose its’ value since they are not pure.

 

Beside those three natural factors, Cut and Size are the rest two artificial factors. Cut, jadeites could wroth nothing without incredible design and magic cutting. The artful deign, fancy model, fluency shape, characteristic color after cut would create unique value for jadeite. Size is also important when the Color, Transparency, Texture and Cut are similar within two jadeites. Especially for the upper range jadeite, the big size would be unusual and valuable.
